House Inspiration: The Great British Bake Off
Our household is obsessed with The Great British Baking Show.*
So much so that we refuse to watch it when it airs (Wednesday night on CBC), because the on-air edit CUTS OUT THE TECHNICAL CHALLENGE which is 100% essential viewing. So we watch the unedited version on the CBC app instead.
This has been Life Hacks with Nadine.
The show triggered a bit of a baking binge here — there's a sourdough starter bubbling on the counter as I type — and some serious kitchen-appliance envy.
The ovens used on the show are NEFF Slide&Hides and I would pay all the money for one. But they aren't available here. Which is probably for the best, considering I don't actually have "all the money." Or even "some money." Or, well, "money." But a gal can dream, right? THE DOOR DISAPPEARS!
And when we eventually replace our too-big-and-super-awkward fridge — it excels at holding condiments and blocking sightlines — I'm gonna be pushing for something slim and retro-delightful.
We're already on Team Gingham. And Team Cake. We hang bunting on birthdays and wear aprons regularly. This fantasy kitchen isn't much of a stretch. (With the exception of the aforementioned appliance-budget issues.)
How to get the look:
Sources: fridge, mixer, bunting, tablecloth, table, apron (pattern), wallpaper, cookbook, mixing bowls, Mary Berry tins, cake plate, mugs.
Anyone know how to convince a midcentury/minimalist husband that antique-plate wallpaper is a very good idea?
*It's The Great British Bake Off in the UK, The Great British Baking Show here. I consider the names interchangeable and often call it both names in the same conversation. Just to keep people on their toes. (Kidding. I don't talk to people.)
